What role did geographic location and natural resources play in the the development of Malaysia?

Look at some of the countries in Asia that haven't developed as well as Malaysia, countries like Burma and Laos. What did Malaysia have that these countries didn't?
Malaysia's geographic location has played a big part in its development and so has its natural resources. These things highly contributed to Malaysia becoming what it is today. A countrie's geographic location and natural resources plays a huge part in what it turns into, these things are the reasons why the bigger countries, such as Britain and USA, are what they are today.

Malaysia's geographic location played a big part in its development, and to become what it is today. The countries bordering Malaysia are Singapore and Thailand. Malaysia is relatively free of natural disasters. This played a big part in its development because unlike some other countries, such as Burma, Indonesia and Bangladesh, natural disasters have not affected Malaysia's speed of development. Malaysia is accessible by sea, which made it easier for it to import/export items to/from other countries, Laos is landlocked which means it is surrounded by land, not sea. Malaysia is conveniently pretty close to a few major economic powers like Japan, China and India. It's climate also attracted traders. Being close to major economic powers helped Malaysia get all the things it needed, this and many other reasons are a big part of the cause of how much the country has progressed.

National resources are another main reason why Malaysia has grown so much. A natural resource that Malaysia possesses is oil and gas. Malaysia produces enough oil and gas for its own consumption and exports a small percentage, this has satisfied a lot of needs in that area and has gotten some money. Malaysia has a lot of drinking water which has helped a lot since you cannot drink tap water here, unlike in some countries. The climate in Malaysia is good for palm trees to grow and recently the palm tree industry has expanded. Tin is another natural resource that Malaysia possesses. Fishing is a big industry in Malaysia because we have large coastline. These resources have all contributed to Malaysia becoming as great as it is today.

As you see, a country's natural resources and geographical location is very important to how it will evolve over time. Malaysia's geographical location has helped it a lot, the countries bordering Malaysia have not affected it in a bad way. If Malaysia was bordered by a country more prone to natural disasters, like Indonesia, it would probably be affected and this would seriously slow down its progress to becoming what it is today. Natural resources have helped a lot in Malaysia becoming what it is today. What Malaysia had that some countries didn't was a good geographical location and a wide variety of national resources.
